Larnaca weather in November: what to expect

01What the weather is like in Larnaca in November
Long-term data show that November in Larnaca averages 23°C by day and 13°C at night, with 42 mm of rain over the month. The daytime warmth still allows long walks around town, but after sunset it is noticeably cooler. Rain is now worth bearing in mind when you plan long walks with no indoor stops.
The sea off Larnaca stays at 23°C on average. In terms of water temperature, swimming is still comfortable this month. The water is cooler than in October, but time on the beach is still a good addition to walks around town. Swim in the warmest part of the day, so that you are not caught by the evening chill when you come out of the water.
Compared with October, both days and nights get colder, and there is noticeably more rain. November continues the shift into the wetter part of the year. In December it gets cooler still and monthly rainfall rises even more markedly: in Larnaca, winter is wetter than late autumn.
02November in Larnaca and other towns in Cyprus
In November, Larnaca and Nicosia, the capital, are equally warm by day, but nights are warmer in Larnaca. Monthly rainfall is the same in both towns. Larnaca and Paphos have the same daytime and night-time temperatures, but Larnaca gets less rain.
Limassol is warmer than Larnaca by day and at night, but it also gets more rain. Compared with Troodos, Larnaca has much warmer days and nights and less rain; the difference is most striking in the daytime temperature.
03What to wear and what to do
For a daytime walk, a T-shirt or a long-sleeved shirt will do; for the evening, bring a jumper and a light jacket. On the Finikoudes promenade you will want a windproof layer: the wind off the sea makes the chill more noticeable. With the autumn rain, closed shoes and a hooded jacket make sense, especially if you plan to spend several hours outdoors.
Plan beach time for around midday; after swimming, change into dry clothes before staying on the beach into the evening. In sunny weather, take a hat and sunscreen. Finikoudes is good for an unhurried stroll in the warmth of the day. A visit to the Church of Saint Lazarus is best saved for a cooler or rainy part of the day: looking round the interior lets you spend that time under cover.

Climate in Larnaca
Larnaca has a Mediterranean climate: a long, dry summer with average daytime temperatures of up to 33°C and a short, mild winter. The sea stays warm until late autumn, and December is the rainiest month.
What the climate of Larnaca is like
Larnaca lies on the south-east coast of Cyprus, on Larnaca Bay and close to the Larnaca Salt Lake. Summers here are long and hot; winters are short, mild and rainy. Annual rainfall is 349 mm, and the main rainy season runs from November to March. The wettest month is December, with 95 mm on average. From June to September there is almost no rain, so outdoor plans in summer rarely have to be moved because of it.
Compared with other towns on the island, Larnaca is fairly dry: Limassol, Paphos and especially Troodos get more rain. The July heat here is less intense than in Nicosia, the capital, which lies inland, but stronger than in Paphos. Winter nights are cooler than in Limassol. The Troodos Mountains are noticeably cooler in both summer and winter, so a trip up there calls for warmer clothes than Larnaca does.
Sea temperature in Larnaca by month
The comfortable swimming season in Larnaca runs from May to November, when the water is at least 21°C. The sea is warmest in August and September, at 28°C on average, so late summer and early autumn are the most pleasant times for a swim. The water is coolest in February, at around 17°C, so a winter trip is better planned around walks and the town's sights.
In spring, a sunny day can easily make it seem that the swimming season has begun, but the sea warms up slowly. In April the water is still around 19°C, which is cool for a long swim. Autumn is different: the sea slowly releases the heat it built up over the summer and stays warmer than the night air. Even in November its average temperature is 23°C. If swimming is the main purpose of your holiday, autumn gives you more opportunities than early spring. On a cool evening you will need dry clothes to change into after leaving the water.
Larnaca weather by season
Winter in Larnaca is short and mild: in January it averages 17°C by day and 8°C at night. Frost and snow are almost unheard of on the coast, but rain and damp can upset your plans for the day. For going out in winter, choose a waterproof jacket and closed shoes that are comfortable on wet streets. Spring brings the warmth back quickly, although the evenings are still cool and the rain gradually eases. In March it is still noticeable, and towards summer there is less and less of it. A long-sleeved shirt is right for a spring day, and you will need a jumper in the evening. You can now plan a long walk without the winter damp, but early mornings will not always be warm.
Summer effectively lasts from June to September: the heat holds for a long time and rain becomes rare. In July and August it averages 33°C by day and 23°C at night, so evenings bring only partial relief. For a summer day, a linen shirt and light trousers that protect your skin from the sun work well. In summer the UV index reaches very high and extreme levels: use sunscreen, wear a hat and spend the midday hours in the shade. Leave long walks around town for the morning or evening.
Autumn starts off feeling like summer, and the heat only eases noticeably later on. The days stay warm, the nights gradually get cooler, and in November the rainy season returns. Summer clothes are still fine in early autumn, but towards the end of the season you need a light jacket against the damp. When you plan to spend the evening outdoors, bear in mind that after sunset it is already cooler than during the day. In late autumn, alternate long outings with visits to the town's indoor sights.
When to visit and what to see in Larnaca
For a beach holiday with the warmest water, come in late summer or early autumn. September suits those who want a properly warm sea, although the days are still hot. October lets you combine swimming with longer outings in town without the summer heat. The Finikoudes promenade is a pleasant place to spend the morning, or to come back to in the late afternoon after the beach. In summer, don't plan a long walk along the promenade at midday: the stretches exposed to the sun are best walked earlier in the day. A visit to the Church of Saint Lazarus can fit between a morning swim and an evening outing, with enough time for an unhurried look around.
Spring and autumn are good for sightseeing if you want to walk more and worry less about the midday heat. These are good seasons to see the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque and to set aside a separate outing for the Salt Lake. In spring, treat swimming as an optional extra, as the water is still cool; in autumn you can combine sightseeing with the sea more confidently. For visits to religious sites, choose modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees.
In winter, people come to the Salt Lake to see the flamingos. This outing is best planned for daylight hours, when it is easier to watch the birds. In the rainy months, don't devote a whole day to outdoor places alone: keep the Church of Saint Lazarus in your plans. After rain, choose your path by the lake carefully so you don't end up walking on waterlogged ground. On a short winter trip, alternate natural sites with the town's sights and leave room to change the order of visits if it rains.
