Protaras weather in November: what to expect
In November the weather in Protaras still allows swimming: the sea stays at around 23°C. Days average 22°C and nights 13°C, and there is more rain than in October.
01What the weather is like in Protaras in November
In November Protaras averages 22°C by day and 13°C at night. In the sunny hours it is still pleasant to walk about in light clothes, but after sunset it gets noticeably cooler. The difference between day and night is now noticeable: if you eat outside in the evening in the same clothes you wore at midday, you will feel cold.
About 45 mm of rain falls during the month. Compared with October it is cooler and wetter: the dry summer period is over. In December the temperature drops further and there is even more rain. November in Protaras leaves more room for time outdoors than the month that follows.
The sea averages 23°C, so swimming is still comfortable. The water is cooler than in October, but it holds its warmth longer than the air. A beach holiday is still possible this month, though you need to allow for breaks when it rains.
02November in Protaras and other towns in Cyprus
In November Protaras is slightly cooler by day than Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos. Nights here are warmer than in the capital and the same as in Larnaca and Paphos. Rainfall is slightly higher than in Nicosia and Larnaca, but lower than in Paphos.
Limassol is warmer both by day and at night, but it also gets more rain. Compared with the Troodos Mountains, Protaras has much warmer days and nights and noticeably less rain over the month.
03What to wear and what to do
For a walk during the day a T-shirt and light long trousers are enough; in the evening you will need a jumper and a light autumn jacket. The wind off the sea makes windproof fabric a good choice, and with November rain a hooded jacket and waterproof shoes are handy. If you are heading out for a long day in the morning, plan from the start for a cool walk back after sunset.
For a swim at Fig Tree Bay, pick the sunny part of the day, and keep your towel and dry clothes where the rain can't get to them. You don't have to sunbathe the whole time you are on the beach: alternate time in the sun with rest in the shade. Cape Greco is a good choice for a longer walk in dry weather: November daytime temperatures let you spend more time on the views.

Climate in Protaras
Protaras has long, dry summers, with average daytime highs of up to 33°C, and short, mild winters. The sea holds its warmth for a long time, so the swimming season lasts until November.
What the climate of Protaras is like
Protaras lies on the east coast of Cyprus, north of Cape Greco, and follows a Mediterranean pattern: a long spell of dry heat gives way to mild, rainy weather. The town gets 352 mm of rain a year. The main rainy period runs from October to March, and the wettest month, December, brings 87 mm. From June to September there is almost no rain, so everyday plans outdoors rarely have to be put off because of it.
The sea evens out the temperature: compared with the capital, Nicosia, which lies inland, July here is less hot and January nights are warmer. In summer Protaras is warmer than Paphos, and its yearly rainfall is close to Larnaca's. The Troodos Mountains are noticeably cooler and much wetter. Frost and snow are almost unknown on the coast; in winter the temperature usually stays above zero, even at night.
Sea temperature in Protaras by month
For most people the comfortable swimming period in Protaras runs from May to November, when the water is at least 21°C. The sea is warmest on average in August, at 29°C. It is coolest in February, at around 17°C. If long swims are the main point of your holiday, midsummer and early autumn offer warmer water than the start of the beach season. In May, go in briefly at first and see whether the water feels comfortable to you.
The spring sun warms the air quickly, but the sea warms up more slowly: a warm day in April does not yet mean a warm swim. Autumn is different. In October the water is still around 26°C, and in November 23°C, and it stays warmer than the air at night. That is why an autumn trip suits people who want to swim without the hottest days. On a cool evening you will need dry clothes when you come out of the water.
Protaras weather by season
Winter in Protaras is short and mild, but it is also when the heaviest rain falls. In the coolest part of the year daytime temperatures are around 16°C, and the lowest average night temperature is 8°C. After sunset it is noticeably cooler than during the day, and a long evening walk calls for different clothes. When you go out in winter, wear a waterproof jacket against the rain and damp. In spring the rain eases and the days get warmer, though the evenings are still cool. April's daytime warmth of around 22°C is already good for long walks. In spring a long-sleeved shirt is useful for a cool evening after a warm day.
Summer weather lasts a long time: from June to September average daytime temperatures are hot, and rain all but disappears. At the hottest time of year it is around 33°C by day and up to 24°C at night, so it does not cool down sharply after sunset. In summer choose light-coloured, loose clothes in cotton or linen. The UV index is very high, so use sunscreen, wear a hat and spend the middle of the day in the shade. Plan shopping and longer walks for the morning or evening.
Autumn starts with summer warmth: September is still hot and almost dry. In October the daytime heat eases and the rainy season begins. November stays warm during the day, but the nights get cooler and there is more rain. In autumn take a thin jumper for the evening, especially if you will be coming back after sunset. In the second half of autumn allow time to shelter indoors when it rains, and choose shoes with soles that grip well on wet surfaces.
When to visit and what to see in Protaras
If your holiday is about the beach and swimming, choose summer or early autumn. On a beach day, Fig Tree Bay can be your main stop, with no long walk added in the hottest hours. May suits those who don't mind fresher water, and October combines a warm sea with milder days. In November the water is still warm enough to swim, but rain affects plans more often. For the beach part of an autumn trip, keep a few days free so you can swap them around.
Spring and autumn are good times for Cape Greco: without the summer heat it is easier to spend longer on the views and the stops along the way. In spring this walk can be the main event of the day, even before the comfortable swimming period starts. The climb to the Profitis Elias Church on its rock is also best done when it is moderately warm. In summer go early in the morning, before the day heats up. On a hot day, don't do the climb to the church and a long walk on the cape one after the other.
A winter trip is better for getting to know the town than for a beach holiday. Between showers you can walk around town and visit the Profitis Elias Church, leaving yourself the option of cutting the route short. In the rainy months, take care on wet stairs and rocky stretches. Spread outdoor sights over different days so you don't have to do the whole planned route in the rain. Put off the climb to the church until the steps have dried.
