Nicosia weather in November: what to expect
In November Nicosia is still warm during the day, averaging 23°C, but nights are already down to 11°C. The sea near Larnaca stays at 23°C, so you can combine swimming with walks around the capital.
01What the weather is like in Nicosia in November
According to long-term data, Nicosia averages 23°C by day and 11°C at night in November, with 42 mm of rain over the month. The days are still pleasant for long walks around the city, but an early start or a return after sunset calls for warmer clothes. There is more rain than in October, so a November walk may be interrupted by bad weather. The difference between the warm days and cool nights is noticeable even though real winter weather has not arrived: after sunset the capital quickly loses the day's warmth.
Nicosia itself has no sea. Near Larnaca the water averages 23°C, so swimming is still comfortable this month. The sea is cooler than in October, and in the capital it gets colder both by day and at night. The rainy season is gathering pace, with more rain falling. In December it gets colder still and the monthly rainfall rises even more markedly; November in Nicosia stays warmer and drier than the month that follows.
02November in Nicosia and other towns in Cyprus
In November Nicosia is cooler than Limassol both by day and at night, but it gets less rain. Daytime temperatures are the same as in Paphos and Larnaca, but nights in the capital are colder. Nicosia gets less rain than Paphos and the same amount as Larnaca.
Compared with Ayia Napa and Protaras, the capital is warmer by day, cooler at night and slightly drier. Compared with Troodos, Nicosia has higher daytime and night-time temperatures and less rain.
03What to wear and what to do
For a daytime walk, a shirt or a long-sleeved top and light trousers will do. If you are coming back late, bring a jumper and a medium-weight jacket: the evenings here are noticeably cool. Because of the November rain, closed shoes and a hooded jacket make sense. Save light beachwear for the coast; after a swim you will need dry clothes, and a windcheater comes in handy if the wind is blowing off the sea.
Plan beach time for the warm part of the day, leaving time to change before it cools down in the evening. In the sunny hours a hat is a good idea on a city walk too. The Venetian Walls and the Famagusta Gate are good to explore on foot in the mild daytime warmth. Spend a rainy part of the day at the Cyprus Museum: its collection keeps you busy indoors when it is wet and cool outside.

Climate in Nicosia
Nicosia has long, dry summers, with daytime highs of 38°C in July, and mild, rainy winters. Spring and autumn leave more time for walking around without the summer heat.
What the climate of Nicosia is like
Nicosia lies in the interior of Cyprus, on the Mesaoria plain between the Troodos Mountains and the Kyrenia range. Summers here are hotter and winter nights cooler than in the island's coastal towns. In July the capital is hotter by day than Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos, and it has the lowest annual rainfall of the Cypriot towns listed here. Up in the Troodos Mountains, summers are cooler, winter nights are colder and much more rain falls.
Nicosia gets 345 mm of rain a year. The wettest month is December, with 84 mm, and the rainy season runs from October to May. The rain is spread unevenly over this period and becomes less frequent as summer approaches. July and August are almost completely dry. The long, dry summer goes with a short, mild winter, but on a clear winter night the temperature can drop close to freezing; frosts are rare.
When to swim: the sea near Larnaca
Nicosia itself has no sea, so people go to the coast to swim; Larnaca is the nearest to the capital. The season with comfortable water temperatures runs from May to November, when the sea has warmed to at least 21°C. The water is warmest in August and September, at about 28°C. The sea is coolest in February, 17°C on average, so a winter trip to the coast is better for time on the beach than in the water.
In spring the sea warms up more slowly than the air. A warm day in the capital does not mean the water will be just as pleasant: early spring is too soon for long swims. Autumn is different: the water holds on to the summer warmth for a long time and stays warmer than the night air. If swimming is the main purpose of your trip, autumn gives you more chances than spring. Even in November the sea near Larnaca is still in the comfortable range for swimming, though it already feels cooler on the beach after sunset.
Nicosia weather by season
Winter in Nicosia is short and mild: in January it averages 16°C by day and 6°C at night. This is the wettest part of the year, so a sunny morning may be followed by rain, and it is best not to plan an evening walk as if the warmth of the day will last. In winter, wear a waterproof jacket for the cool evenings and the rain. Spring is warm and gradually drier; by May daytime temperatures reach 30°C. Mornings and evenings are still noticeably cooler than the middle of the day, especially in early spring. In spring, choose a long-sleeved shirt with sleeves you can roll up in the warm midday hours. At this time of year it is easier to split a long walk between the morning and the afternoon.
Summer is long, hot and dry. In July the average daytime temperature is 38°C and nights stay at around 23°C, so don't expect it to cool down sharply after sunset. Rain is unlikely to cut your plans short, but the sun needs attention. In summer, wear light, loose clothing that covers your shoulders. Because the UV index is very high and sometimes extreme, use sunscreen, wear a hat and spend the midday hours in the shade. Take water with you on a long walk.
Autumn begins with summer heat: September still belongs to the hot season. After that the days gradually become milder and the nights cooler, and from October the rain becomes more noticeable again. On an autumn evening you will need a light jacket, especially late in the season. In November, leave room in your plans to move a long walk to the dry part of the day, as there is more rain than in early autumn.
When to visit and what to see in Nicosia
The easiest time to combine a beach holiday with a visit to the capital is early summer or early autumn. At these times the sea is already warm enough for swimming, and you can keep the city part of the trip for a separate day. September is especially appealing if you like well-warmed water, but Nicosia itself is still hot then. Don't put a long tour of the city and a full beach day back to back without a break to rest. For sightseeing in the capital, set aside a day with a short route and a stop indoors.
Spring and autumn are the more pleasant times to look at the Venetian Walls and the Famagusta Gate: without the summer heat you can spend longer there. Ledra Street is also easy to include in a walking route in the warm weather of spring and autumn. Don't try to fit every place into one walk: leave time to look around at an easy pace and to sit down and rest. In summer, do the exposed parts of the route in the morning and save the Cyprus Museum for the hottest part of the day. St John's Cathedral can be visited separately, which cuts down the time spent outdoors between stops.
In the rainy months, start exploring the city somewhere you can spend more time under a roof. The Cyprus Museum works well for this; leave the walls and the Famagusta Gate for the dry part of the day. After rain, wear shoes with soles that grip well on wet surfaces. Allow enough time to get back from a walk so that the evening chill doesn't catch you far from wherever you left your warm clothes.
